Marketing strategies of the mass-market chocolate industry Essay

This report is an evaluation of the marketing strategies used in the mass-market chocolate confection industry in the United Kingdom (UK). The four brands this report studies in detail are Cadbury, Galaxy, Kit Kat, and Maltesers. The UK mass-marker chocolate confectionary market is the biggest in the European Union and sales are heavily reliant on a solid marketing strategy. Using the four brands mentioned above this report investigated the following, segmentation, targeting and positioning, consumer buyer behaviour, promotion, pricing, product, and placement, social media strategies, and communication strategy. Finally, this report gives critiques on the effectiveness of the marketing strategy for the four selected brands and recommendations on how they might improve. Of the four brands studied, only Galaxy uses demographic segmentation by focusing on women but all four use behavioural segmentation by focusing on benefits sought from eating chocolate. Cadbury targets creative individuals, galaxy targets the indulgent types, Kit Kat targets tired employees, and Maltesers targets those in search of guilt free chocolate. Cadbury positions itself as a creative brand, galaxy as a treat, Kit Kat as a break bar, and Maltesers as the lighter way to enjoy chocolate Chocolate is an impulse good and need recognition is usually stimulated upon seeing the packaging, where as information search is usually omitted or happens very quickly. When it comes to evaluating alternatives consumers, positioning and brand personality come into play. Finally, the choice to buy or not to buy happens very quickly. Cadbury was the only brand found stay in contact with consumers post-purchase by sharing recipes that one could make with Cadbury products. Each of the four brands use adverts, sales promotion, sponsorship, and social media to increase brand awareness. However, no promotional material gives information about pricing because retail outlets set their own prices. Most mass-market chocolate bars are around the same price and can be found near tills at retail supermarket outlets as well as off-license stores across the nation. All four brands are connected to their consumers via social networks, with the exception of Galaxy and Maltesers who do not have twitter accounts. Each brand uses social networks to reinforce their positioning strategy. Cadbury uses it to encourage creativity and audience participation, Galaxy uses it to remind women of the irresistibility of chocolate, Kit Kat uses it to remind its fans to take a break, and Maltesers uses it to celebrate is 75th birthday. This report concludes by recommending that Cadbury should identify a clear branding message because currently its adverts are always open to interpretation. Galaxy should stay in touch with customers post-purchase with recipes for irresistible chocolate desserts. Kit Kat should continue having a strong focus for all communication material and Maltesers should communicate its original message, a lighter way to enjoy chocolate, more explicitly.

Bush has proposed allowing workers to invest some of their federal retirement taxes themselves to earn a better rate of return — a partial privatization of the 65-year-old retirement system.For such a long time the Social Security have been viewed by most conservative as a way in which the power of the government expands. The Social Security is owned by the government. We know he is capable of this - he has punished Caliban in such a way. However, no only does he refrain from torturing them, but also makes sure they are not uncomfortable! Alonso's group includes the pervasively cheerful Gonzalo, and is never kept away from food or water. Caliban knows the island, and helps Stephan and Trinculo survive. Ferdinand even fins the love of his life. Even though Prospero deceives the shipwrecked captives, it is never for his own personal enjoyment. Instead, he specifically aims to achieve his goals by putting pressure on Alonso and restricting Caliban's scheming. As if this were not enough, he further surrenders his powers and even begs the readers' help to assure his safety! It becomes obvious that Prospero has no desire to rule or lust for power to corrupt him, but only wishes a return to his previous status. The Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions were authored in secret by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in response to the repressive Alien and Sedition Acts passed in 1798. In the opinion of Jefferson and Madison, the Acts were unjust. They also represented a major victory for the Federalists. By writing the Resolutions, Jefferson and Madison spearheaded the protests of those against the Alien and Sedition Acts and those in support of stronger states’ rights. Although the Resolutions were successful in the two originating states, they did not have much success in the other states. Still, the new ideas presented in the Resolutions were almost revolutionary. Although the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions of 1798 and 1799 were not very successful, they were important because they provided necessary arguments for the supporters of greater states’ rights against the proponents of a stronger central government.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The Alien and Sedition Acts played major roles in the coming about of the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions. Passed in early 1798, the Acts laid down a number of harsh restrictions on foreigners. The Alien Act stretched the minimum years for eligibility for naturalization from five years to fourteen years. It also gave the President the power to expel any alien from the country. The Sedition Act was even harsher; it gave the government the right to arrest anyone accused of seditious activities. The Sedition Act thus cracked down on many Jeffersonian newspapers which criticized the government. Of course, Jefferson criticized these Acts; he even called them â€Å"worthy of the 8th and 9th century† (2 / p.174). With these laws the Federalists were thought to be stifling the power of the Jeffersonians.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Through the Alien and Sedition Acts, those in support of a stronger federal government achieved a major victory. The Acts gave new powers which were not dictated in the Constitution to both the executive and legislative branches. The Federalists were able to pass these acts with their logic based upon loose translations of the Constitution, especially the â€Å"elastic clause.† In peacetime, these Acts would not have had a chance in being passed, but the undeclared war with France had riled up Congress enough to accept these loose translations.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The opponents of the Alien and Sedition Acts were led by Jefferson and Madison; in response to the Acts the Republicans launched an attack on what they believed were breaches of the Constitution. The attack on the Alien and Sedition Acts was based upon the â€Å"strict construction theory† of the Republicans.

Our society is an ever-growing community of law breakers, not to condemn themselves morally, but to stress what they believe to be just, and correct. Just as Martin Luther King Stepped in front of our nation and broke several laws, he did so in order to express his passionate belief of our constitution that "all men are created equal." Unfortunately, to this days we have trouble to fully synthesize are laws with our constitution, which has lead to several rules being broken, for a right cause. Currently we are still living in an unequal nation. Not necessarily ethnic issues, but our jobs are endangering the people of this country. Today thousands of workers working in meat-packing companies have been arrested, fined, sued in result of their complaints against the company for mal-treatment, violations of the job safety rules, and their health. Our president George W. Bush recently signed the Cheeseburger act, which denies any complaint against such large meat packing company, which further lets these companies continue to grow as a monopoly, and inequitable.. According to the book Fast Food Nation, thousands of people are injured, abused, and given false docter treatment that endangers their life, which is completely contrary to the basis of our working rights, and structure of this nation. And for the Higher government to support this is completely unjust, and immoral. Having thousands of injured workers apparently doesn't matter to the government, because it is from these companies that our government gets much funding. Specifically it is because of this reason that the government would never go against them, because much of their own personal funding would be gone. This is only a sample of how corrupt our government has become. Laws will continue to be broken, in order to fight for equality, life, and health from these meatpacking industrial workers, and several other dedicated workers. Gabriel Ahmoso a meatpacking employee for Tyson has upheld several courts fighting for the return of his health, family, and his old life. An immigrant from Mexico, who worked in Colorado ten years for Tyson, was forced to go late nights to fix chemical spills without the proper equipment, along with cutting meat one inch away from a person. After Losing 4 fingers, being abused, and having heart-attacks in result of the chemicals he ended up losing both his daughter and wife. Leaving him because he was continuously drinking in order to relieve the much pain he had to withstand everyday at work.

Mary Street by Peter Skrzynecki Essay

He emigrated to Australia in 1949 with his parents. Most of Skrzynecki’s poems are about his life and the change that he has experienced from moving to a different country. In 1951 the family moved to Sydney, to the working-class suburb of Regents Park, where a home had been purchased at 10 Mary Street. The poem â€Å"10 Mary Street† represents change as it shows the comparison between Skrzynecki’s life in Poland and his new life in Sydney and how he and his family have had to adapted to their new way of life and how the physical change of moving countries has changed them emotionally. Change is present in this poem as the poet uses the simile â€Å"Shut the house; like a well-oiled lock† to appreciate the order of daily ritual when departing in the morning. It indicates that the house is secure and protects the family. The simile â€Å"like adopted children† shows that the garden is not like any other garden to them. The language techniques that Skrzynecki uses in this poem are used to great effect and create a level of connection between the reader and Skrzynecki’s and how his life was. Some of the techniques used are: Similies: A simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another of a different kind, as an illustration or ornament, the effect that a simile has in a poem is that it paints a picture in our minds as a simile is a descriptive set of words e. g. â€Å"And smoked like a dozen Puffing Billies† Personification: A figure of speech that gives human qualities to abstract ideas, animals, and inanimate objects. It affects the reader by creating empathy, and allows the reader to associate with the poem and the message in it e. g. â€Å"In its china blue coat†

Interpreter of Maladies Essay

Happy, fulfilled characters are impossible to find in ‘Interpreter of Maladies’. Do you agree? The book ‘The Interpreter of Maladies’, written by Jhumpa Lahiri, have a fascinating charm, which is related to the authors describing and story proceeding skills. The character development and their story, how it goes, and how it evokes the reader’s creativeness at the end is so highly amusing indeed. The most of the stories in the book ‘The Interpreter of Maladies’ ends in vapor; meaning that there is no significant conclusion given. Which means, that the readers cannot easily all agree on one single opinion, that the all the characters in the book ‘The Interpreter of Maladies’ are not happy and fulfilled. As the story ends in a vague pathway, there is a numerous possibility and possible story that can be continued for the readers. The story might end happy sad or even vaguely again in the readers mind, and by that we cannot come to a single agreement on how the characters will end up, and mostly people would not want a sad ending for the characters. For example, the story of Shukmar and Shoba, from the story titled ‘Temporary matter’, shows that the ending can be divided in to variety of opinions. Throughout the story, the death of newly born baby, which is the cause of the crack in their relationship, and both of them avoiding each other, significantly showing the loss of communication and constant misunderstanding, indicates that Shukmar and Shoba will most likely break up with each other. Also, especially as Shoba directly states that she is planning to move out: a significant indication of their, Shoba and Shukumar’s, relation will break. However, as it seems most likely that this wed will break up, there is a significant amount of signs that indicates that their relation will continue throughout. For example, the conversation they were able to have in the dark room shows that, even though they have been trying to avoid each other as much as possible they can still communicate and understand each other in given circumstances. Also, after his confession on the baby’s gender and appearance, Shukmar gazes out to the street, warm evening with couples in arm to ar m, giving a hint that Shoba and Shukmar will be like that again. Also, Shukmar and Shoba weeping together, because they now know the things they did not, in the dark room at the end of the story shows that as they now understand each other they will be able to get along with each other. However, the interpretation of this story depends on personal perspective and opinion, but as it stands, as there is varying opinions, one cannot conclude that the characters in this book of stories are never fulfilled and happy. Another story that also illustrates that we cannot simply conclude that all the characters in this short story book cannot be fulfilled or achieves happiness is a story called ‘Mrs. Sens’. This story is about a Mrs Sen, an Indian woman who came to, still very too foreign, America. She is young and caring woman who can cook and care for children. However, although she is mature in some ways, she is also immature in some other ways. Throughout the story readers can easily conclude that Mrs Sen is not able to, and does not try to adapt to the American culture. All she do is complain and compare between her own country, India. Although this kind of behavior is acceptable for someone who is living out of their own country, but considering she is an adult this kind of behavior is very immature. Throughout the story readers can easily see that the Mrs. Sen is alienated from the country called America, her questions to Eliot, â€Å"if I scream here, will anybody come running† significantly show that she cannot understand the American culture. Also, her refusing to learn how to drive, and merely stating that ‘this is too much’ is a showing that she cannot adapt or even tries not to adapt to the American culture; driving skills indicates the basic understanding of American culture, as it is treated as bolts and nuts for grown adults. However, even though she cannot adapt to the American culture and i s alienated there is a slight indication, or an event, that her condition might improve. At the end of the story Mrs Sen, attempts to drive for her own fulfillment but ends up in a car accident. The happening shocks her greatly in mental status. Although the ending can be interpreted as Mrs. Sen’s final break down and a consequence of her continuous refusal to accept the American culture, it can also be interpreted as her improvement in the future, as people learn from their mistakes. So, readers can have their own opinions, and which means that one cannot specifically conclude that the characters in the book ‘Interpreter or Maladies’ cannot achieve fulfillment. Also, the story named ‘The Third and Final Continent’ clearly and significantly shows that the character does not end up without any fulfillment and happiness. Mala is a female Indian, and a wife of the narrator, an Indian man. She is a very skilled woman in terms of housing; she can cook wel l, clean well, and does everything well. However, she does have a natural complex; her skin color is very dark. Because of this complex of hers she was unaccepted as a woman in her country, which means her life was almost alienated in her own country.

Boy Scouts and Militarism

Boy scouts movements are what we can consider embedded in the culture of many countries. The appeal of this youth movement had captured the attention of young boys worldwide. The Boy Scout movement had built a decent reputation of rearing young boys with admirable characteristics. This gained reputation is the very basis why the Boy Scout movement had become the largest youth-based organization in the world. When people hear of the term â€Å"Boy Scouts†, they associate it much with camping and other fun activities.According to founder of the movement, Robert Baden-Powell, the activities of the Boy Scouts are focused on developing physical and mental fitness, camaraderie, character, and citizenship. The program of the Boy Scout movement claims to be designed to help young people to develop self-reliance, courage, and integrity, among many other admirable traits (Elleke 12-15). The truth behind those stereotypes would not be questioned. What this paper would delve on is what ma ny admirers may had overlooked regarding the nature and the origin of the of the most influential youth movement.Many critics had argued that the Boy Scout movement can find its roots as being militaristic in nature. The concept of militarism may sound too radical when aligned with the seemingly innocent movement, who talks about having fun while aiming towards being better persons. But of course, criticisms would not be heard of if they are lacking solid and convincing basis. If the nature of the origin of the Boy Scouts movement would be reviewed, the possibility of militarism could be easily disregarded. It is beyond question that the Boy Scout movement is promoting very ideal yet admirable concepts for youths.But since there is lots of evidence that suggests militaristic beginnings, this paper would argue, as a reiteration to the arguments of forerunners with the same argument: that it is undeniable that the Boy Scout movement had started as an interest group that is based much on militarism. To springboard this argument, there is no need to look far from the word â€Å"Boy Scouts. † The term â€Å"scouts† alone would ring a military function. The term would suggest military functions that are closely related to information gathering and reconnaissance.IF we give much thought on this term, we could relate it to the incorporation of outdoor activities (e. g. camping, trekking) to Boy Scout programs. The movement claims that those outdoor activities are for developing self-reliance and survival in the wild. It is hard to dismiss the notion that these kinds of activities have resemblances to military training. The question of where would Boy Scouts could use this kind of training would certainly intrigue critics. It appears that knowledge of survival in the outdoors is not as practical as the movement promotes.Knowledge of survival in the outdoors is much useful in the context of war. Militaristic Origins Scouting can be traced back from the tim e of Robert Baden-Powell, a British lieutenant- general who founded the Scouting Movement. It all started and happened during the Siege of Mafeking, Second Boer War. Baden-Powell recruited boys with ages 12- 15 years old whom he eventually trained. From this situation, he founded the Boy Scouts, which is clearly seen to be a product of a militaristic movement. The roots of British Boy Scouts, on the other hand, can be traced from its foundation in May 1909.The organization was actually composed through members of Scout troops in the Battersea District. Although lacking of financial and human power support, the organization survived through various ways of generating these two important resources. To gain financial assistance, the organization pursued to get initial funds through acquiring sponsors. The members used the weekly page of the paper Chums to generate funds from their sponsors. To gain more members, the foundation spread the news of their existence in other parts of the Un ited Kingdom.However, in October of that same year, the British Boy Scouts was reconciled with Baden-Powell’s headquarters. They became the allied organization of Baden-Powell with Sir Francis Vane giving his assurances. That time, he is the Commissioner of Baden-Powell London. One proof that the British Boy Scouts originated from a military orientation is the incident that happened the following month. It was November 1909 when Sir Francis Vane suddenly made a schism right after he was ousted by Baden- Powell from the Scout Association.The two men actually have opposing views regarding the militarism and bureaucracy. Vane made strong arguments regarding Baden- Powell’s militaristic and political leadership over his headquarters staff. Here, the British Boy Scouts proved their support to Sir Francis Vane. They came with Sir Francis Vane in his schism and chose him to be their leader. From this point, The British Boy Scouts expanded its connections and alliances through founding another organization in the early 1910—the National Peace Scouts. It was actually a joined organization with the Boy’s Life Brigade.From a small organization, the British Boy Scouts, late known as Brotherhood of British Scouts, expanded through forming some allies with other countries such as the United States, Hong Kong, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Indi, New Zealand, and South America. It was then called The Order of World Scouts in 1911. From a small organization, it expanded to 12 countries. (Jeal 428) However, The Order of World Scouts suddenly declined and eventually made its downfall when Sir Francis Vane got involved with bankruptcy, making the Brotherhood of British Scouts fell back as a domestic, small organization. The presence of militaristsIn 1910, fifty- six percent of the 250 Presidents and Commissioners, a total of 140 men, were identified as military officers, whether serving or retired (Springhall, 939-940). With this huge militaristic pr esence in the government, the Boys Scout Association can be given doubts as the organization that acts as front for further military ambitions. Involvement of the youth in war In Baden-Powell’s book entitled Scouting For Boys, one chapter discusses marksmanship which is said to be the same with patriotism (Baden-Powell 322). When World War 1 exploded, the scouts were used as auxiliary assistance of the war.Moreover, those who ages fifteen to seventeen could undergo special trainings in basic infantry techniques, entrenching, shooting, and signaling. In addition, a specific cadet corps called Mafeking Cadet Corps helped military missions through transmitting messages, decreasing the duties of the military men while providing the boys with something to do during the siege. The Mafeking Cadet Corps composed of young boys was of great help to the military during the siege in 1899 to 1990. Similarities to militarism The resemblances between the Boy Scout movement and groups with m ilitaristic nature are very striking indeed.The similarities between the two would go beyond similarities in their appearance. Boy Scouts are sporting uniforms that could only have been inspired by military uniforms. But more striking is the use of badges to determine ranks or seniority. The concept of â€Å"badges† could be interpreted as one of the drawbacks of the design of the program of the Boy Scout movement. Boy Scouts could be trained and condition to think that everything they do must translate to merits. This could be more than contradicting to the movement’s preamble that is seemingly altruistic.Many critics had posted the striking similarities, even in the design of Boy Scouting badges to those that the military forces are using. It could also be included that the Boy Scout movements also conduct flag ceremonies in an almost religious manner. Only the military forces practice such religiosity towards nationalistic practices like the flag ceremony. The desig n of conducting flag ceremonies, in relation to the argument that Boy Scouting involves much militarism could have been for re-instilling nationalistic thoughts in the minds of young people.In Baden-Powell’s book, Scouting For Boys, he had something that could be relatively too hard to absorbed by young people, but not of young people under militaristic training â€Å"be prepared to die for your country is it need be, so that when the moment arrives you may charge home with confidence†¦Ã¢â‚¬  The most notable part of his line was targeted to young Boy Scouts â€Å"†¦not caring whether you are going to be killed or not† (Baden-Powell 331-332) For Baden-Powell, the ideal citizenship involves being preparedness for the possibility of death while serving the country.Those lines could be closely associated to what military personnel say all the time, like they are brainwashed or something, especially when they are set to fight in a war. Even the seemingly innoce nt practices of Boy Scouts like songs, chants, and marching finds its roots to military influences. Almost all Boy Scout song and chants have similarities to those of the military forces. There striking similarities in terms of cadence, melody, and content.There is no need to expound on marching as being military influenced. That just requires an open-and-critical mind dashed with even the slightest common sense. Moreover, the similarities go beyond appearances between Boy Scouts and the military. Even the internal design of the Boy Scout program seems to follow militaristic thinking. During the early years of the Boy Scout movement, the divisions of the early version of the Boy Scout movement have very explicit similarities to the way military forces are organized.It was like there is a corresponding branch within the Boy Scout movement to branches of the military forces. In 1912, there was the Sea Scouts, during World War 2 there was the Air Scouts of 1940 (Vane 19). In the founda tional book â€Å"Scouting For Boys†, there was a whole section dedicated for the discussion of the Navy and the Army (Baden-Powell 328-330) Misleading design Militaristic qualities are ever present and obvious at the Boy Scout movement. Yet advocates of the movement persistently dispel the argument that the movement is in anyway militaristic.Their first line of defense was the seemingly innocent and politically stripped words of Robert Baden-Powell (see introduction of this paper). But many critics view Baden-Powell’s design as misleading and leaning towards militaristic ideals. One point of argument by the movement’s critics is that misleading leanings set by Baden-Powell. The founder of the movement claims that Boy Scouts are aiming for high morality. According to critics, that kind of design is also employed by other misleading organizations such as when the pacifist group Boys Life Brigade aiming at â€Å"saving lives.† (Foster) One of the most popul ar interpretations of the Boy Scout movement as a whole is by former president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. His comments are devoid of any leanings, but still it provides good material for this discussion â€Å"†¦it does not try to make soldiers out of Boy Scouts, but tot make boys who will turn out as men to be fine citizens, and who will, if their country needs them , make better soldiers for having been scouts† (Roosevelt) A critic had analyzed Baden-Powell’s words to his publisher in 1901.Baden-Powell’s words are â€Å"if you want to ensure peace let them see you are prepared for war†¦Ã¢â‚¬  That alone could paint a militaristic interpretation, yet Baden-Powell added and pertaining to the Boy Scoutsâ€Å"†¦a wise and practical organization of the splendid material lying ready to our handsâ€Å" (Adams 123) The critic had concluded that the real motive behind the creation of the Boy Scout movement is to provide additional defen se for the British military. (Foster) Conclusion The Boy Scout movement started as an organization that has an altruistic mission of helping young people.But political opportunists had recognized the potential of the growing movement. And by their power and influences, they had managed to create a seemingly innocent movement that has subtly incorporated militaristic traits. Moreover, the Boy Scout movement can not deny the fact that their origins are of militaristic nature. Even the founder of the movement had come from the military. It is just understandable that he may incorporate militaristic ideals in the formulation of the organization that he had started.Having a militaristic origin does not reflect negatively on the Boy Scouts of today. What is the most efficient way to do is to separate negative and positive traits from militarism. They should reject negative militaristic traits like leanings towards war. Work Book 01 1. 1 My Personal Experience My Personal Experience Mid-term examination at APIIT My fellow colleagues were facing difficulties with studying particular chapters that I was good at. Therefore, despite of the time factor, I agreed to help them to get through. Taking care of my pets at home & around I am much more concerned about the wellbeing of my pets & animals around the neighborhood. Always feed them on time, groom & treat them in case of any medical emergency Precise & honest towards my duties/ responsibilitiesI do my level best to avoid any irrelevant contact with my office mates that will disturb my routine & always try to stay focused on finishing given duties on time with satisfactory results. Keeping my house clean & organized I am much concerned about keeping my house & around clean & organized by following the 5S methodology. Enthusiasm towards hand crafting, event management & arts I am very much interested in making my own hand crafts in gifting friends & fam ily, organizing small & creative surprise parties for friends & sketching art. Taking up the challenge of working full-time while studyingAt the point of final year studies, I took up a job to work on full time while managing my studies, time & tasks. The hidden side of me consisted of those expressions which I had in me but was not feeling comfortable to express publicly due to personal defensing reasons. * Unknown side of me was pretty difficult to identify as it was not known to me or others.Therefore, I had to make use of online psychometric test assistants & E- Johari Window exercises to understand these aspects. Discussion:Self Awareness In the journey of beginning to become an authentic leader, one must first carry out a self evaluation. Self evaluation consists of understanding yourself against past experiences you’ve gone through (childhood experiences, educational experiences, moments with allies, results of social interactions & etc). Considering these elements of self evaluation, it can be understood that all these sum up to the key word Self- Awareness.Simply breaking down the meaning of self awareness, it can also be known as knowing ‘Who I am’. A person without knowing itself can never be expected to understand others & lead others effectively. In becoming an effective leader, one must become the kind that its followers are willing to look up to. Having a better understanding about our self helps us to understand our interests, strengths, weaknesses, skills, capabilities, values, motivators, morals & etc which helps us to have a clear picture on our abilities which should be enhanced & drawbacks which needs to be overcome in achieving our targets.In building self awareness, there are several tools initiated by different leaders, researches & other initiators in helping individuals to discover themselves before becoming an effective leader. As you will notice under the appendix, my personal experience mind map, character map and Johari window concepts are exercised in helping me in raising self a wareness. Experiences that are elaborated in the experience mind map (appendix 1. 1) represent those moments in my life which has set targets, changed personal beliefs; realize my interests and simply knowing how I prefer to serve myself being true to my heart & instincts.Quoting the university incident, seeing my colleagues facing difficulties in studying for exams with the limited time factor, I understood that I could do some good deed by helping them to easily understand those chapters which I was god at and at the same time, recall my study memory. As I was done tutoring them, I had the feeling of satisfaction in me which brought me the determination of helping out people when in need because I felt that I made a good value out of my living.Overlooking the general past experience mind map, it can be summarized as helpfulness, being organized, caring, honesty, precise working patterns, prone to challenge & creativity are a few noticeable elements in me which explains my percepti on. As anybody else in the world, I have made use of behaviors, quotes & beliefs other people in extracting examples for me to believe and look up to. These external parties have had influences on my beliefs & values where it is important to draw a character map (appendix 1. ) in raising self awareness. By building the character map, I have understood that learning from mistakes, activeness, eco- friendliness, honesty, fairness, creativity, empathy & helpfulness attracted most of my attention as I believe in them & further practice such expressions. Also, the Johari window (appendix 1. 3) further helps me to understand myself in a much advance & more effective level where perceptions of third parties have been brought to the concern.Under the open area, it clearly identify that myself as well as others understand (realized by self questioning myself & interviewing others) that I’m a person with interest for other’s wellbeing, open personality, religious, socially activ e & who supports justice. Also, out of my concern (blind), others have understood me to be donating & determinant people (eager to outstand) and were identified by questioning my allies, guardians, fiends, team mates & relatives.Under the hidden area, it has showed certain expressions which I have been hiding from the society for my personal defense. Such hidden expressions explain that I’m possessive against what I care for, make my own fortune, listen to others & have a very strong mental strength which is protective against failures & disappointments (identified by deeply examining myself). Finally, the unknown area has made me realize a few expressions which neither I nor others have tend t understood in me. In identifying these expressions, I made use of an online psychometric test (on www. onroeconsulting. com) which discovered that I am adequately assertive, able in working in teams & possess adequate leadership qualities. Since it was my first working experience, I wasn’t much sure of how to plan & organize my work & schedule. I was constantly summoned by my manager to follow steps in noting priorities for the at the beginning of the day where I will not tend to miss or duplicate any work and properly my manage my work load. Even after several warned minor mistakes due to my disorganized patterns by compromising on my value of learn from mistakes, I didn’t pay m uch attention to it where it came to my concern that I had mistakenly ignored to correspond to enquiries of a set of highly potential buyers.Due to the fear of being blamed, I tend to hide it away where I completely compromised on my values of honesty & trustworthiness. Once this was brought to the concern of my manager by those buyers itself, I was sent through formal procedures in high level warning & my monthly bonus was revoked. As a wise and helpful solution for the above scenario, incase if I was to re- experience such situation, despite of the fact that I will be blamed in short term, I will not hide anything from my manager as he is the immediate personal who can come up with the best solution in settling the situation. I will be completely honest & clearly communicate my situation and build trust within which will be helpful for me in facing potential circumstances.Also, I could adopt a new value in to myself (being organized) in order to revoke such easily preventable circ umstances in the future which will not only develop my effective authenticity, it will also not make me compromise on my values potentially which will preserve my authenticity. 2. 3Ethical Boundaries 1) 5 Why’s In controlling myself over compromising on my values at the point of temptation, I have learnt to follow the 5 WHY’s theory where I question myself ‘why am I doing this’ for five times for every answer provided since the first why. It is stated that the researcher will come to understand if they are compromising their values on or before the 5th why. 2) True to Heart & Instincts At the point of temptation, I will question myself if I am doing this according to what my heart & instincts desire or am I being pressured to do so. 3) Religious ViewsUnder certain cases (tempted to lie to revoke being scolded or punished) of temptation, I tend to compare my tempted to do actions with my religious beliefs and control myself if it will breach my religious be liefs. 4) Preset Limits/ Strategies At the slightest notification of possible situations where I will compromise on my values, I pre set a list of actions which I am allowed to observe & not observe to preserve my values and authenticity. Discussion:Values To become an authentic leader, we must develop high awareness of our values. Values are those expressions which we authentically adapt and which describes one’s beliefs. A person without articulated values where behavior is guided by external factors are low aware of their values & those who has strong articulated values that guide decision & behaviors has high awareness of its values. Values do not change depending upon the environment one operates in & not agreed to compromise for short term benefits. In becoming aware of my personal values, several measures are being observed in this report.Firstly with use of my character map & johari window, I have identified 11 key areas (Helpful, Empathy, Creative, Fair & Justice, Honest, Determination, Active, Eco- Friendly, Learning from mistakes, Trustworthy & Religious) which I believe to desc ribe me the best & to be my values and categorize them as under most important, important & non important values (appendix 2. 1. 1). It is pretty easy to live our values when we face no difficulties.But at times when life throw stones at us, as a person who is in the progress of building authenticity in myself, I tend to compromise on my values in achieving solutions. Therefore further understanding pressure drops on my values, I have discussed a true experience (appendix 2. 2) at my previous workstation where I happen to compromise on my values in seeking temporary solutions. According to Bill George (2007), ‘ethical boundaries set clear limits o n what you will do when you are tempted or are under pressure or when you start rationalizing a series of major decisions’. Under the workbook three, it analyzes the motivational capabilities of me with use of several tools. As ill George discuss in True North (pg. 106), motivation consist of two forms; Extrinsic & Intrinsic. Extrinsic motivators are derived from the external world (money) and intrinsic motivators are derived from the meaning of one’s life. As the first attempt of understanding my motivation capabilities (appendix 3. ), I have considered my life stories analyzing what caused my motivat ion/ de-motivation under each story. Once causes are being identified, a cross comparison of myself awareness & values with cause helped me to understand my motivators. Secondly, in classifying what motivators are most crucial for me, I have done an analysis of personal extrinsic motivators (appendix 3. 2) & intrinsic motivators (appendix 3. 3) with use of a grid where I have ranked, scored & explained why these motivators are important to me. Under extrinsic motivators, it was learnt that I was more prone to react for motivator such praise & appreciation, money, position power, opportunities &recognition.Under intrinsic analysis, it was understood that I was motivated at instances of helping others, satisfaction from doing a good job, being creative, deriving pleasure from performing tasks & challenging & changing things. By reconsidering these motivators, it could be brought to a conclusion that my extrinsic motivators consist of those factors which help me to learn and develop my self further & intrinsic motivators are those which brings mental satisfaction. As much as motivators do good, being over attached to them could also bring disadvantages. In analyzing potential possibilities my motivators pulling me off balance, it was discovered that greed for money, over- dependency on feedback, too much creativity, too much communication & extremist on goal achieving could potentially pull me off my motivation balance.In overcoming such situations, it was recommended to do time management, activity prioritizing, following ethical boundaries, cross comparison of values & actions, create progress reports and enhance self awareness better in preventing such situations (appendix 3. 4). As motivation & interest play along, it was then discussed how my motivators provoke interest within me to do what I desire. In discovering my interests (appendix 3. 5), I questioned myself, what is important for me? , what am I really interested in? & What makes me passionate?. In the end, it was understood that gratitude, peacefulness, personal development, sense of exploring, accuracy, beliefs & freedom are those hidden instincts which generate interest with in towards my motivators. Once my motivators are identified, strengths (hard/ soft skills, qualities, personality types & talents) (appendix 3. ) & weaknesses (quick temper, expensiveness, boredom, time management & enjoyment addiction) (appendix 3. 7) identified where they were then connected to find my motivated capabilities which helped to determine sweet spots (the best of what I want to become by putting my motivations & capabilities together). In identifying sweet spots (appendix 3. 8), I questioned my desires with What to Become? With what originality? , At where? & Which performs what?. International Marketing Manager at an export company, Marketing Lecturer at a foreign university affiliated institute & a young entrepreneur of a salon & spa. ConclusionIn winding up this report, it can be stated th at this is report is based on a critical examination of my effectiveness as an authentic leader by applying models learn at lectures & through reference material to present the research that I have undertaken in my own personal research. In further explaining the report consists of three workbooks which explain self-awareness, values & motivated capabilities of me. Firstly, the report has explained measures in which my self- awareness is being determined. With use of a personal experience map, it shows what remarkable experiences that I have gone through and what makes those life stories special to my instincts. Also, as we all humans look up to third parties in extracting inspirations, I have built a character map which not only consider event in my life story, which also consider roles of those specific characters has played in my development.Also, as the last step of self awareness, a Johari Window is being created which examine my open, blind, hidden & unknown areas of my life w hich provides me with a better understanding of myself and my characteristics.
